Why do you want to download it while you can read it online at the publisher's site:

On the above, click on "Browse before you buy", set your browser to allow running ActiveX control if you haven't done so (to install a reader plug-in), then you can read the whole book, including Granger's paper - but you cannot copy or print a page.

is this practice confined to books published by the Benjamins?

yes, but if you search with Google Print/Scholar, there are many books that are freely available - though some sections may not be read.
