Data collection is an important topic in corpus building. I have a manuscript on this topic too. I will put it in spoken corpora board, because my focus is on speech data collection.

Introspective data: one individual's (possibly biased) intuitions, monitoring one's own language production

Elicited data: intuitions of a small number of informants, aware of what is being tested on

Corpus data: a pool of the intuitions of a large number of speakers, naturally occurring language production

It's up to you to decide which data is more reliable while keeping in mind that corpora and intuitions are complementary.
