third language acquisition and multilingualism ?

is this the new languistic research trend?
or the linguists' interest has been transferred to 3rd langue acquisition from 2nd language learning?

L3 acquisiton is no new trend at all in Europe and North America. only it is less considered in China. The organizer of the internaltional conference wishes to find a few established scholars in this area in china to attend the conference. If you know any, please let them know about the conference. many thanks.
